Pirates Take One Individual Title, Finish Fourth at SCAC Championships

SEGUIN, Texas -- The Southwestern University women's track and field team grabbed one individual title and a couple of all-conference performances at the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships in Seguin, Texas. 

Women's track earned fourth overall, scoring a total of 78 points. The Trinity Tigers won their sixth consecutive SCAC Championship. 

Tiamara Hill-Johnson dominated the women's discus event to claim the title with a score of 39.57 meters, edging out teammate Erin Toro, who finished second with a distance of 36.27 meters. Toro was a standout performer for the Pirates, placing second in the javelin throw (30.88 meters) with teammate Taylor Hubbard following in third (29.90 meters). She also had a pair of third-place finishes in the shot put (10.87 meters) and hammer throw (36.58 meters). 

Hubbard also competed in the pole vault, placing third with a mark of 2.88 meters, and the triple jump (sixth, 9.67 meters). 

Some other top finishes include Keamber McCracken as the runner-up with a time of 1:07.86 in the women's 400-meter hurdles. She also placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles. Hannah Jones earned a top-five finish by coming in fourth place in the high jump. Erica Robuck and Dejahnae Thompson placed sixth and seventh place in the women's 400-meter dash and Lauren Mackrell won eighth overall in the women's 100-meter dash.

Southwestern women's track team won two third-place finishes in the relay events. Hubbard, Mackrell, Thompson and Robuck finished with a time of 51.96 in the 4x100 meter relay and McCracken, Carrasco-Torres, Thompson, and Robuck finished at 4:21.06 in the 4x400 meter relay.

In the long-distance events, Laura Carrasco Torres won 11th place in the 800-meter run and 13th place in the 5000-meter run. Giselle Kennison followed behind Carrasco-Torres and earned a 12th place finish in the 800-meter run. 

Their strong showing at the championships capped a very successful 2021 season for the Southwestern University women's track and field team.
