Women's Track Team Places High in First Day of SCAC Championships

SEGUIN, Texas — The Southwestern University Pirates women's track and field team had a couple of standout performances on the first day of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships, ending the day in fourth behind Trinity, Texas Lutheran, and Colorado College. 

In the field events, Erin Toro led Southwestern with a pair of third-place finishes, recording a distance of 10.87 meters in the shot put and 36.58 meters in the hammer throw. Tiamara Hill-Johnson finished eighth in the shot put with a mark of 9.88 meters and sixth in the hammer throw with a distance of 30.44 meters. 

Taylor Hubbard added another third-place finish for the Pirates, clearing a height of 2.88 meters in the pole vault. The freshman from Austin, Texas, also competed in the triple jump, finishing sixth with a mark of 9.67 meters. Hannah Jones finished ninth in the triple jump, covering a distance of 8.98 meters. 

On the track, Erica Robuck had a top-10 finish in the 200-meter dash, placing seventh with a time of 27.06. Teammate Lauren Mackrell finished just behind her, placing 13th with a time of 27.49. 

Southwestern will resume competition tomorrow with the conclusion of the SCAC Championships hosted by Texas Lutheran University.
