HOT SHOOTING PIRATES FALL SHORT TO 23/24 DEPAUW, 69-46

Despite shooting 50 percent from beyond the arc for the game, Southwestern University dropped their match-up on Sunday to nationally ranked DePauw, 69-46.

Southwestern University started the game well scoring the first points of the half and eventually going up by six on a Jessica Herbst layup with 12 minutes remaining. DePauw was able to bring the game even just 5 minutes later and eventually took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Brooke Osborne. Southwestern trailed by just 5 points going into halftime.

DePauw scored the first 7 points of the second half to bring their lead to 12, but Southwestern responded with a run of their own and pulled within 7 on a Jennifer Tindle three-pointer with 13:30 remaining in the half. After some costly Pirate turnovers, DePauw pushed their lead to 23 and the Pirates never recovered.

Southwestern was led by senior Natasha Azizi who was a perfect 6-6 from the field on the night for 15 points in 24 minutes of play. Junior guard Tindle chipped in 11 points and was 2-2 beyond the arc. Sophomore center Staley Mullins had one block on the night to pull closer to the SCAC Conference season block record top ten.

With the loss, the Pirates fall to 5-15 overall and 1-9 in conference action. The Pirates return to the road on Saturday as they head to conference rival Trinity. The game will begin following the men's game at approximately 8:00 p.m.
