Box Score

On a night where senior forward Natasha Azizi was honored for reaching the 1,000 point milestone, she put her abilities on display by posting her third double-double of the season. Unfortunately, turnovers cost the Pirates as they lost their third conference match-up of the season 72-63 to Hendrix.

The game started out as a back and forth battle with 5 ties and 4 lead changes in the first half alone. Despite shooting 50% behind the arc and holding Hendrix to just 33.3% from the field, the Pirates found themselves trailing by 4 at the half.

Southwestern was quickly able to bring the game even once again on an Azizi offensive rebound and put back at the 18 minute mark. The Pirates would claim the lead briefly with 17 minutes to play before Hendrix took the lead for the last time on a Chelsey White jumper and one with 16:38 to go.

The Pirates would get down by as many as 14 points twice in the second half before pulling within 6 with 21 seconds left on an offensive rebound and put back by sophomore forward Katie Kern.

The Pirates forced the Warriors into 24 turnovers and just 36.7% shooting for the game, but committed 25 turnovers and shot 34.5% themselves.

SU was led by Azizi in both points (19) and rebounds (10). Junior guard Jennifer Tindle and Kern both had strong showings for the Pirates posting 11 and 10 points respectively.

The loss moves the Pirates to 3-8 on the season and 0-3 in the conference. They will next take on Millsaps on Sunday, January 4th at 3:00 p.m. in Georgetown, TX.
