Long Range Shooting Leads to Women's Basketball Loss

GEORGETOWN, Texas - It was a tale to two halves as the Pirates struggled from three point range in the second half after shooting red hot from long range in the first and fell 74-67 to Rhodes College on Saturday night.

Southwestern was shooting 71.4% from three point range through the opening 11 and a half minutes of the first half to take a six point lead, 25-19, with 8:28 to go in the half. Rhodes was forced to take a time out to stop the run, but Leeder picked up where the Pirates left off by hitting a layup and the free throw after being fouled.

Rhodes went back to working the ball inside to their post players and pulled back within one point, 40-39, at halftime. Leeder and Anna Fareed paced the Pirates with 15 and 12 first half points, respectively, while Mary Barber was automatic on eight foot jumpers with 11 points to lead for Rhodes. The Lynx went without a made three pointer for the entire first half while Southwestern was 5-10 from long range.

The game remained tight through the first nine minutes of the second half, but back to back three pointers by Sarah Womack gave the Lynx a seven point lead, 55-48, with 10:25 to play.

Southwestern started attacking the basket and were rewarded with free throws to pull within four points, 66-62 with just over two minutes remaining.

Southwestern couldn't find the big bucket they needed and were forced to foul as the clock ticked down, putting the Lynx on the line. RC converted on 8 of 9 in the final 1:12 to close out the game.
