WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS FINAL REGULAR SEASON CONTEST

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS FINAL REGULAR SEASON CONTEST

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - In the final game of the regular season the Southwestern women's basketball team fell 80-72 on Friday night. The loss drops the Pirates to 16-9 on the season and 8-8 in the SCAC and in fourth place in the conference.

Trinity maintained a slight advantage through the midway point of the first half but began to pull away, going up by 13, 22-9, with 9:42 left to go in the half. Southwestern went on a 5-0 run to pull within 8, 22-14, but turnovers began to plague the Pirates and allowed the Tigers to go up by 15, 29-14, with five minutes to go.

SU was able to cut the deficit to nine, 34-25 by halftime.

The Pirates played extremely well at the outset of the second half, pulling within four points, 46-42 on a layup by Anna Fareed with 14 minutes remaining in the game. Turnovers once again cost Southwestern and Trinity went on a 12-0 run to once again lead by 16, 58-42, with just over 10 minutes to go.

Chelsea Leeder's three stopped the run and Shae Seagraves' (pictured) jumper with 5:20 remaining brought SU within nine, 63-54. Katelyn Bartell's free throw with three minutes to play put Southwestern within six, 67-61, but that is as close as the Pirates would get as the Tigers made their free throws down the stretch to seal the 80-72 victory.

Turnovers cost the Pirates tremendously throughout the contest as SU committed 32 during the game but were +10 in rebounds.

Seagraves led the way in both rebounds and points for Southwestern, posting a double double of 21 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Bartell was all over the boards pulling down 10 rebounds of her own. Leeder contributed 20 points while Fareed added in 11. Trinity's Danielle Hubenak led all scorers with 31 points.

SU has sealed a spot in the SCAC Conference tournament and will have to wait until the remainder of the conference closes out games on Saturday and Sunday before they know exactly what seed they will be and who they will face in the opening round in Jackson, Miss.
