HOME SWEET HOME; PIRATES TAKE OPENING GAME OF HOLIDAY CLASSIC

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern University women’s basketball team remains unbeaten at home with an 82-62 win over Central College in the first round of the Holiday Classic held in Georgetown. With the win SU improves to 4-5 on the season and 4-0 at home.

The first half was a battle that saw three ties and nine lead changes in the opening 20 minutes. SU trailed by as many as seven twice in the period but mounted a 6-2 run to close out the first half within two, 39-37.

A pair of free throws by junior Staley Mullins to start the second half brought the game even just one minute into the final frame and a fast break layup by Jessica Herbst put the Pirates ahead for the final time.

Mullins led offensively with 19 points while junior Shae Seagraves was close behind with 17. Seniors Jessica Herbst and Katie Kern scored 14 points and 12 points respectively. Kern was also the leading rebounder for SU with eight.
