The Southwestern women's basketball team travels to Colorado Springs, Colorado, for a crucial game against the Colorado College Tigers.

Southwestern trails Colorado College (6-5) by a win in the conference standings and is currently sixth in the SCAC with a 5-5 conference record. The Pirates are one of three SCAC teams hanging around .500, trailing Colorado College and Austin College (5-4).

Colorado College enters the contest on a two-game winning streak, posting wins over the University of Dallas and Austin College last weekend, led by reserve 6-foot-2 reserve center Zoe Tomlinson averaging 13 points and 13 rebounds to record her fifth and sixth double-double of the season and win SCAC Player of the Week

Tomlinson led Colorado College with 16 points and nine rebounds against Southwestern on Dec. 17, 2021. The Pirates won that game 71-68 with a late 3-pointer from Taylor Carney and a big night from freshman point guard Ellie Ward, who scored a career-high 19 points on her way to winning the SCAC Player of the Week in Week 7

The Pirates outscored Colorado College 36-27 from the 3-point line and 11-7 from the free-throw line to offset a 28-14 Colorado College advantage in bench scoring.

Colorado College is the second-ranked scoring offense in the conference, 10th in the nation in total assists (338), with junior point guard Anna Fanelli leading the country in assists per game (8.5) on a 2.33 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Southwestern counters with the top field-goal percentage in the conference, ranking no. 15 in the nation by holding opponents to 31.4 percent shooting. The Pirates are anchored by a three-big rotation of Carney, Princess Roberts, and Reece Sandercock, who leads the SCAC in blocked shots with 2.5 per game. Both teams also clean up the glass as two of the top three defensive rebounding teams in the country, averaging 35 per game.

Senior sharpshooter Lauren Fulenwider leads the offensive, averaging a team-high 14.1 points per game. Fulenwider can go on quick scoring binges as she did in the first game between these two teams, scoring 15 points on 5-for-8 shooting from deep. Fulenwider leads the nation in 3-pointers per game (4.11) and is eighth in 3-point percentage (44.3).

The Pirates are susceptible to fast breaks and points off turnovers, ranking near the bottom of the conference in turnovers per game with 20.9. However, neither team is adept at generating steals or forcing turnovers, ranking seventh and eighth in the conference in both categories.
