Women’s basketball falls at TLU to close regular season

Southwestern women's basketball will have to share the SCAC regular season title with Texas Lutheran after falling to the Bulldogs 66-59 on Friday in Seguin.

The first half saw ten lead changes and six ties, proving the hype surrounding the game was warranted. TLU's Taylor Dydalewicz nailed a three with 18 seconds remaining and Olivia Podaras hit one of two from the free throw line in the final two seconds, sending Southwestern into the locker room down two, 34-32.

Jordan Owens quickly tied the game at the start of the second half, but the lead seesawed back and forth. Texas Lutheran had a brief 6-0 scoring burst to lead 47-41 with 11:12 remaining and pushed it to a ten point lead with 4:25 on the clock, 57-47.

Southwestern never got closer than five points the rest of the way, falling 66-59.

The Pirates shot 32.7% from the floor and 22.2% from three point range and was led by Owens with 16 points. Valerie Logan added in 13 with a team high four assists. TLU shot 35.1% from the field and 40% from three point range on their home court and was led by Dydalewicz's 17 points.

Annie Bourne led all rebounders with 21 boards as the Pirates won the battle of the glass 46-39, but committed seven more turnovers in the loss.

SU falls to 13-12 on the year and 11-3 in the SCAC, snapping a seven game win streak. Texas Lutheran ends at 16-8 overall and 11-3 in conference. The two teams will share the SCAC regular season title and will have to await the final of Trinity/Schreiner on Saturday to determine the #1 seed entering the conference tournament next weekend in Irving. Either way, Southwestern has earned a first round bye and will play in the semifinals on Saturday. Game times are yet to be determined.
