Leeder Leads Way in All-SCAC Awards

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced their 2013 All-SCAC teams on Saturday. Highlighted by Chelsea Leeder's selection as Co-Player-of-the-Year and Co-Defensive Player-of-the-Year, Southwestern placed three on the first team. 

Leeder is currently fifth in the conference in both points scored (364) and points per game (14.6) and is also ranked in the top 10 in the league in three-point field goals made (50 – third), three-point field goal percentage (30.7 percent – eighth) and assists (85 – sixth). A First Team All-SCAC selection a year ago, she is the league's current career scoring leader among players who have played their entire career in the conference with 1,194 points. In addition to her offensive prowess, Leader is a defensive force in both the full and half court and is currently ranked among the league's leaders in both steals (59 – fourth) and blocks (27 – fourth). The SCAC coaches recognized these efforts and also named Leader the SCAC Defensive Co-Player-of-the-Year – making her the first player in conference history to earn both Player- and Defensive Player-of-the-Year honors in the same season.

Jordan Owens earned a First Team All-SCAC spot with her dominant play in her sophomore season. She is third in the conference in points per game, averaging 16.9 per contest and eighth in rebounds per game at 6.8. Owens led the conference in three point percentage, shooting 43% from long range, and points per 40 minutes at 27.7. Owens was named as the Newcomer-of-the-Year last season and was an Honorable Mention All-SCAC pick also. 

Annie Bourne earned a name for herself and a First Team All-SCAC pick on the boards, pulling down a conference high 297 rebounds, 11 per game. She was also second in the SCAC in field goal percentage at 52.4% and seventh in blocks with 17. Bourne was an Horonable Mention All-SCAC selection last season. 

The Pirates finished the year with one of their best seasons to date with a 19-8 overall record, 12-3 in the SCAC. They advanced to the finals where they fell to Trinity, the only conference team to beat the Pirates this season.
