REBOUNDS LEAD TO PIRATE LOSS AT HENDRIX

CONWAY, Ark. - Southwestern's women's basketball team was out-rebounded 51-27 on Friday night in a 75-59 loss to Hendrix College. The loss drops the Pirates to 13-8 on the year and 5-7 in the SCAC while Hendrix takes sole possession of first place in the West with an 8-4 record.

Southwestern came out strong scoring the opening six points before Hendrix matched the 6-0 run with one of their own, tying the game at 6-6 with 16:37 to go. Things remained close until two runs by the Warriors but SU behind by 18, 45-27, heading into halftime.

As the second half got underway Southwestern remaing behind by double digits until Shae Seagraves' jumper with 5:32 remaining brough SU within eight, 64-56. She was fouled on the shot and made the free throw to pull the Pirates within seven.

Hendrix took care of business from the free throw line, keeping Southwestern out of striking distance, to secure the 75-59 win.

Three Pirates were in double figures, Chelsea Leeder and Staley Mullins both had 13 points while Anna Fareed added in 12. Southwestern had 14 steals on the night led by Katleyn Bartell's (pictured) five.

With the loss SU falls into last place in the West and out of postseason play with four games to go. They have a crucial match-up on Saturday night against Millsaps who sits in second place with a 7-5 record.
