REBOUNDS AND THREES UPEND PIRATES AT HOME

GEORGETOWN, TX – Hendrix shot 52.4 percent from three point range and were +24 in rebounds to hand Southwestern their second consecutive conference loss, 80-75 on Friday evening. Southwestern falls to 10-3 on the season and 2-2 in the SCAC while Hendrix moves to 6-6 on the year, 3-1 in the SCAC.

Southwestern used crafty cuts and open looks in transition to jump out to an early 12-2 lead with 14:07 left in the first half. Despite the strong start the Pirates took a three point deficit, 36-33, into the locker room. Senior Anna Fareed was a large part of keeping Southwestern close as she posted 13 points on 4-5 shooting from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line in the opening frame.

While Southwestern's perimeter play dominated the first half the interior took control at the start of the second half. Seniors Staley Mullins and Shae Seagraves worked the paint for easy jumpers and gave the Pirates a one point lead, 40-39 with 16:23 remaining in the game.

The Warriors briefly led by three with 14 minutes to play but first-year Chelsea Leeder's three pointer off an out-of-bounds play tied the game for the third time at 47-47. Hendrix snagged the lead back, 49-47, on the ensuing possession on a Ashley-Pauley jumper.
HC built up a nine point advantage, 66-57 with 5:47 to play and were trying to put the Pirates away, but Southwestern had one last run in them. A three pointer by first-year Bri Guevara (pictured) started an SU 8-0 rally, pulling the Pirates within one point, 66-65. Another three by the Warriors pushed their lead back to four points with 2:35 remaining and Southwestern wasn't able to close the gap, ultimately falling 80-75.
SU shot a respectable 39.7% from the field and 36.8% from long range but were unable to match the hot shooting night of the Warriors who were 43.3% from the field, 52.4% from three point.
SU's Fareed led all scorers with 19 points on 5-11 shooting while Leeder added in 16. Seagraves and Mullins rounded out the Pirate scorers in double digits with 14 and 12 respectively. HC's Byler led the Warriors with 18 points.
Southwestern will look to return to their winning ways on Sunday as they host Millsaps College at noon.
