FREE THROW SHOOTING KEY TO SEASON OPENER VICTORY

IRVING, Texas - The Southwestern women's basketball team shot 90% from the free throw line, 18-20, en route to a 73-59 victory over the University of Dallas on Monday in their season opener.

First-year Chelsea Leeder led the way for Southwestern in her first collegiate match, scoring a team high 19 points. She was 6-13 from the floor, 3-7 from long range and a perfect 4-4 from the line. Senior Shae Seagraves chipped in 16 points while senior Jennifer Tindle added 15.

Leeder led in assists as well with six and was second in rebounds for the Pirates with eight boards, trailing team leader senior Staley Mullins (pictured) by one who pulled down nine in the win.

As a team Southwestern shot 42.1 percent from the floor and 43.8% from long range in addition to the near perfect free throw shooting.

Defensively the Pirates were solid as well, holding the Crusaders to 35.3% from the field, 26.3% from three-point range.

Southwestern remains on the road for their next contest, heading to Schreiner University on Sunday November 21st at 3:00 pm.
