SENIORS CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON, FALL TO TRINITY 57-68

GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern University and its women's basketball team recognized three seniors in their final home game of the season but fell 57-68 to conference rival Trinity. The loss drops SU to 10-15 on the year and 6-10 in the SCAC but their post-season hopes remain alive as Millsaps upset Colorado College at home.

After trailing most of the first half SU pulled the game even at 17 with just over seven minutes remaining on a pair of three-pointers on consecutive possessions by senior Narisa Trammell. The Pirates were able to retain the lead through the remainder of the half despite a consistent attack by the Tigers and went into the break up two, 32-30.

At the outset of the second half Southwestern picked up where they left off and pushed the lead to five at two different points in the second half. The Tigers pulled even, however, with 13:45 to play. The contest remained a back and forth until the ninth tie of the game, 49-49, with 8:10 to go. Trinity snagged the lead for the final time on a pair of free throws and Southwestern was never able to pull back ahead as TU snagged the 68-57 win.

SU shot 34% from the floor and 27.3% from beyond the arc while the Tigers were 40% from both the floor and three point range.

Junior Shae Seagraves led all scorers with 23 points while junior Staley Mullins pulled down a team high 10 rebounds. Trinity’s Danielle Hubenak led the Tigers with 20 points.

The loss marks the end of the Pirates’ regular season with a 10-15 overall record and 6-10 in the SCAC. Three seniors where honored in their last home game for SU, Trammell, Katie Kern and Jessica Herbst. Southwestern remains a half a game behind Colorado College and would receive a bid to the SCAC Conference Tournament if Colorado College would lose in their final game at Hendrix on Sunday.
