Three Second Half Goals Give SU 3-0 Victory at Oglethorpe

The Southwestern men's soccer team scored three goals in the final 30 minutes to break a scoreless game open and pick up the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA on Friday (Oct. 26) afternoon.

The Pirates were out-shot in the first period, 8-6, as neither team managed to put the ball in goal. SU came out in the second period and peppered 13 shots at the Stormy Petrels goal. Senior Daniel Webb (Austin, TX/Westlake HS) scored the first goal at the 60:14 mark, it turned out to be the game-winner, to make the score 1-0.

Just under eight minutes later, Webb scored his second goal of the game and third of the season to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead. Junior Josh Spencer (Huntsville, TX/Huntsville HS) padded the lead during the 82nd minute with assists from David Lozano (Austin, TX/University of Dayton) and Alex Keller (Houston, TX/Langham Creek HS). Spencer leads the team with 10 goals.

Junior goalkeeper Ryan Tasin (Georgetown, TX/Georgetown HS) made four saves to preserve the shutout for Southwestern. He now has six shutouts on the year and the team has held opponents scoreless on nine occasions.

The Pirates held a 19-9 advantage in shots as well as an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. SU improved its season record to 11-5-2, 6-1-1 in the SCAC while the Stormy Petrels fall to 3-11 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

SU takes on Sewanee on Sunday (Oct. 28) in Sewanee, TN with the start time set for 2:00 p.m.
