GEORGETOWN, Texas — Carr Panetta scored the game's lone goal to give the Southwestern men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over the Hardin-Simmons University Cowboys.

The game-winner came 73 minutes into the game off a corner from sophomore forward Nathaniel Blake, who placed the kick perfectly to Panetta near the right side of the net. Panetta headed the ball with force to the far, back left corner of the net for the score.

It was the third goal of the season for Panetta, who is Southwestern's leading scorer through five games. It was Panetta's first game-winner.

Southwestern controlled possession early, generating seven shots to just two for Hardin-Simmons in the first half. Hardin-Simmons outshot Southwestern 8-7 in the second half, putting four on goal but none past goalkeeper Jack Viles, who collected all of his saves after the break. Both teams had nine corner kicks, with Hardin-Simmons earning a final opportunity with less than 30 seconds remaining. Micah Curry delivered a great ball off the final corner, but Viles turned away Micah Curry's final shot with less than 10 seconds remaining to preserve the win.

The Pirates improve to 3-1-1 with the victory, dropping Hardin-Simmons to 0-4. Southwestern will host Concordia Texas on Friday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
