KERRVILLE, Texas – Both teams scored two goals in the second half but SU's goal by Jake Swonke in the opening frame proved to be the difference as the Pirates won 3-2 over Schreiner Friday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- First-year Swonke scored 14 minutes into the game as Andres Carreno-Mendez assisted to put the Pirates up 1-0 heading into halftime.
- Schreiner scored the equalizer less than 20 minutes into the second half, but Southwestern quickly answered as Philip Nelson, assisted by Kirk Kemnitz, put the Pirates back on top.
- Things heated up in the final five minutes as SU added an insurance goal from Carreno-Mendez with three minutes remaining. Schreiner scored just before the final horn to arrive at the 3-2 final.

UP NEXT
Southwestern improves to 3-8 on the year and 3-3 in the SCAC while Schreiner falls to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Pirates remain on the road to face Trinity (7-2, 3-2) on Sunday at 3 pm.
