Men’s soccer drops intense conference match 3-1

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern struck first but the Tigers emerged with the win as SU fell 3-1 to Colorado College Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams were attacking minded from the opening whistle and it was Southwestern on the board first as first-year Jake Swonke brought the ball downfield on a transition and beat a defender, buring the ball in the back of the net to put SU on top 1-0.
  • Colorado College took advantage of a misplayed ball by the Pirate defense in the box as Robert Malone found Tim Huettel just left of goal and scored the equalizer with just over 13 minutes to play in the half.
  • Max Grossenbacher put home a penalty kick with 1:20 remaining after a Southwestern foul in the box to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
  • Colorado College made it a two goal lead with 12 minutes to play as Grossenbacher fed Huettel across the face of the goal and Huettel snuck it past Benner's diving, outstretched arms.
