Men’s Soccer Squares-Off with Centenary in Opening Round of Post Season

Men’s Soccer Squares-Off with Centenary in Opening Round of Post Season

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Centenary will be the focus of the Southwestern men's soccer team as they kick-off post season play at the SCAC Men's Soccer Championship. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening.

This will be the third time this season the two teams have crossed paths. Southwestern won the first two match-ups, 2-1 in Shreveport and 6-0 in Georgetown.

Entering into the game Southwestern has a goals against average of 1.48 while Centenary is averaging 2.02 goals allowed per game. The difference maker, however, is Southwestern's potent offense. SU scores 2.1 goals per game while Centenary is just over one fewer goal per game, averaging .9 goals per game.

Southwestern's offense is led by senior forward Evan Perkins' 14 goals and eight assists, while Steven Resnik has added seven assists on the season. Ryan Staten, Marco Alcocer and Timothy Eamma are also dangerous on the front line and will be viable scoring options for the Pirates.

Centenary leans heavily on three players, Adam Ghaemmaghami, Spencer Nickerson and Brandon Heim, for their offensive production. As the only three Gents players who have scored more than one goal on the year, the Pirates' defensive line will have them marked from the opening whistle.

Anchoring the Pirates is Daniel Poole in goal who has played every minute between the posts this season. He has allowed 28 goals for a 1.48 goals against average and has 98 saves on the season with a .778 save percentage. Poole has three shutouts on the year and will be searching for a fourth on Friday night.

Centenary relies on senior goal keeper Robbie Ramirez. Ramirez has allowed 35 goals for a 2.19 goals against average and with 103 saves has a .746 save percentage.

The teams will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. in San Antonio. Live stats and video links are available at http://trinitytigers.com/sports/msoc/2012_SCAC_MSOC. The winner of the game will advance to face #2 Colorado College at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
