Dallas Sneaks Goal in 87th Minute to Hand SU Defeat

IRVING, Texas  - After 86 minutes of scoreless soccer the University of Dallas Crusaders scored an unassisted goal to beat Southwestern University 1-0. The loss drops the Pirates to 6-9-1 on the year, 3-5 in the SCAC while UD improves to 6-8-1 and 3-5.

Southwestern got off to a slow start, taking just four shots in the first half of action while UD attacked aggressively with 11 shots. The Pirate defense held strong, anchored by Daniel Poole in goal, and kept the game even.

It was a Pirate dominated second half as SU fired off eight shots in the second frame, challenging Dallas on their home field. UD managed just four shots but got one to fall which was all that mattered as they handed Southwestern the loss.

UD held a slight advantage in shots (15-12) and corners (4-3). Four Pirates had one shot on goal in the evening while Dallas posted six shots on goal. Poole recorded five saves in his first start in goal

Despite the loss the Pirates still have a shot at the SCAC Conference Tournament to be held next weekend. A win by Southwestern at Austin College in Sherman, Texas on Sunday at 2pm and a loss by Dallas to Trinity, Hendrix to Colorado and Rhodes to Millsaps would put SU in the coveted sixth and final spot.
