Baseball Dominates Mountaineers, Takes Series 3-0

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Baseball (16-14, 7-6) took home a series victory against the Scheiner University Mountaineers (8-22, 3-9) on Saturday afternoon, completing the sweep of the Mountaineers in dominant fashion. The Pirates only needed fifteen innings between the two games at Rockwell Field. Southwestern won the first game of the day, 14-4 in the bottom of the eighth, and again run-ruling the Mountaineers in the final game, 18-8 in the bottom of the seventh. The Pirates move to 19-14 on the year with a 9-6 conference record.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • James Vaquero and Wyatt Kuhlow both hit home runs. Kuhlow had two RBIs, while Vaquero notched four total hits and four RBIs.
  • Alexander Cannata also gained multiple RBIs with two in the game.
  • Maxwell Mims and Jake Harris combined for five hits: three for Harris and two for Mims.
  • Carson Brown earned the win on the mound for Southwestern, throwing five strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched.

GAME THREE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Owen Stevenson smashed two home runs in game three, and a total of four runs scored, three hits, and two RBIs.
  • Tres Organ led off the Pirate's seventh inning with a solo home run, finishing with two hits and three RBIs.
  • Jake Tanner drove in the most runs for Southwestern on the day, totaling five RBIs with three hits and a walk. 
  • Ryan Corbett pitched the final three innings, throwing four strikeouts and allowing one earned run.

  • Southwestern will be on the road for the next conference series, traveling to Sherman, Texas, to take on Austin College on Friday, April 19th, at 6:00 PM.
