Poets Down Pirates at Rockwell Family Field

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Baseball (7-6) faced off against the Whittier College Poets (4-8-1) in a one-off contest on Monday night. It was a battle between the two clubs pitching staffs as a total of five runs were scored throughout the game between the two teams. Twenty-four strikeouts were recorded in the game, but the Whittier offense proved more productive than the Pirates, leaving the final score at 4-1 in favor of the Poets. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • James Vaquero had a season-high four hits against the Poets, driving in the Pirate's only run on the night. 
  • Maxwell Mims was second on the Pirates squad in hits with two in four at-bats. 
  • The Pirate pitching staff threw eleven strikeouts, with Silas Jones leading the Pirates with four, followed by Braden Simpson and Andrew Hardin with three.

NOTES

  • Whittier pitchers threw thirteen strikeouts, keeping the Pirates to one run scored in the game.
  • Southwestern walked seven batters, while the Poets allowed just four walks. 
  • Freshman shortstop Ben Feuer turned a solo double play on a lineout and unassisted tag at second.
