Pirates gain First Win of Series Against the Celts

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern Baseball (9-10) evened out their record against the St. Thomas Celts (8-12) on Friday night, gaining their first win of the three-game conference series against the Celts. The Pirates advanced to 10-10 on the season after scoring eight runs and limiting the Celts to just two in the game. Southwestern scored four runs in the top of the fourth and seventh to earn them the 8-2 victory against St. Thomas and their second conference win of the season. 

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ben Feuer filled up his stat sheet, knocking two hits and three RBIs against St. Thomas, also scoring two runs. 
  • With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, James Vaquero and Jacob Tanner walked to bring in runs. 
  • Ryan Corbett and Andrew Hardin combined for nine strikeouts and just two earned runs, getting the win and the save, respectively. 

NOTES

  • Southwestern committed no errors defensively, while the Celts falted twice. 
  • The Pirates caught the Celts stealing twice in the matchup. Christian Melillo and Jake Harris both stole bases for Southwestern. 
  • Maxwell Mims and Tres Organ both collected two hits, Mims has now had a hit in eleven of his last twelve games.

  • The Pirates will continue the series against St. Thomas on Saturday, March 23rd at 6:00 PM. The doubleheader will conclude on Sunday, March 24th, at 1:00 PM.
