SUWANEE, Ga. - Southwestern University Baseball has been picked to finish third in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, in a tie with Texas Lutheran, based on preseason balloting from the league's head coaches.
The Pirates won 25 games in 2023 for the first time since 2005 on their way to a 12-7 conference record and their fourth conference tournament appearance in the past five seasons, excluding 2020. Southwestern and Texas Lutheran landed in a tie for third in the preseason poll with 43 points apiece
Trinity garnered seven first-place votes to top the coaches' poll with 62 points. Centenary secured the final first-place vote and finished second in the poll with 51 total points. St. Thomas checked in at fifth with 34 points while Schreiner University earned 27 points and is slotted sixth in the preseason poll.
Rounding out the coaches' selections were Dallas in seventh (18 points) and Austin College in eighth (10 points).
The 2024 SCAC baseball season begins on February 2nd, while the first conference series of the year is scheduled for Friday, March 15th. The 2024 SCAC Baseball Tournament will be held in May at The Depot at Cleburne Station as the double-elimination tournament will begin on Friday the 3rd.
