GREENSBORO, N.C. – Southwestern University senior Will Cates landed on two all-region squads this week. Cates was named third-team All-West Region by D3baseball.com on Monday, but a day later collected first-team laurels from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings just over 24 hours later.

Cates, who graduated from Southwestern earlier this month, was arguably the top all-around leadoff hitter in the region this season. He batted .388 with 11 doubles, seven triples, eight home runs and 26 RBIs. The Houston native also scored 45 runs and swiped 28 bases, while slugging .676 and reaching base at a .458 clip.

It marked the second straight season that Cates earned ABCA/Rawlings first-team all-region honors.
