Baseball Blanked in Howard Payne

BROWNWOOD, Texas - Southwestern tallied six hits in the game but weren't able to link them together to push a run across the plate as the Pirates fell 4-0 to Howard Payne University on Tuesday.

SU started out well, advancing a runner to third base in the first inning after Cruz Luna led off the inning with a single. HPU was able to get out of the inning unscathed, however. The Yellow Jackets struck first, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second.

The Pirates had the next strong look to push runs across the plate, loading the bases in the sixth inning. Once again HPU got out of the jam and kept Southwestern scoreless.

Howard Payne posted one run in the seventh and eighth innings while holding the Pirate attack at bay to steal the 4-0 win.

Luna led the way with two hits while Cray Betts went 1-2 while drawing two walks. Jason Stading garnered the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in three innings of work.

The loss drops Southwestern to 6-15 on the year. They head to Hendrix over the weekend for a two game series against the Warriors.
