Four Pirate Baseball Players Garner All-Conference Accolades

The Southwestern University baseball team had four of its members receive All-SCAC recognition for their play during the 2007 season.

Senior Ryan Bellomy (Dallas, TX/Jesuit HS) capped a tremendous career at SU by being named to the All-SCAC Team for the third straight year. The outfielder led the Pirates in batting average (.347), on base percentage (.470), runs scored (40), hits (50), doubles (13), walks (31) and stolen bases (7). He finished in the top-five in the conference in walks.

Sophomore Michael Murphy (Houston, TX/Austin HS) received his first All-SCAC nomination as one of four catchers to make the team. Murphy started slow but finished the season strong to bat .322 for the year. He led the team in runs batted in with 37, home runs with six and slugging percentage with a .555 percentage. He also recorded a .997 fielding percentage with just one error in 290 total chances.

The third Pirate selected for All-SCAC honors was senior pitcher Andy Morrison (Austin, TX/Connally HS). SU's number one starter all year, Morrison started 12 games while appearing in 14 and compiled a record of 8-5. He logged a team-high 90.2 innings, throwing nine complete games and posting an earned run average of 4.37. The right-hander ranked third in the conference in innings pitched and wins while having the sixth-highest strikeout total with 58. He was an honorable mention selection during the 2005 season.

Brad Culling (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius HS), a senior outfielder, was an All-SCAC honorable mention honoree for the 2007 year. He batted .295 during his senior campaign, scoring 21 runs and driving in 20. He was second on the team with 12 doubles, tied for the team lead with four triples and also hit three home runs. Culling was also second on the team in slugging with a .533 percentage and his .421 on base percentage was third highest on the squad.
