Box Score

The Southwestern University baseball team dropped a 2-0 decision to the Hendrix College Warriors in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Friday (Apr. 6) in Conway, AR.

Hendrix got its first run in the fourth inning with a leadoff single from Daniel Ward. Ward stole second and moved up to third on a passed ball before scoring on an error by shortstop Matt Clark (Spring, TX/Klein HS) with two outs. In the bottom of the seventh, Nathan Skeen reached second thanks to a Southwestern miscue with two outs. He then scored on a single through the left side, making the score 2-0.

Sophomore Michael Murphy (Houston, TX/Austin HS) had half of the Pirates' hits as he went 3-4 and had the only extra-base hit of the game, a double in the fourth inning. Richard Falcone (Houston, TX/Westside HS), Ryan Bellomy (Dallas, TX/Jesuit HS) and Brad Culling (Albuquerque, NM/St. Pius HS) also had hits for SU.

Sophomore Wes Willis (Austin, TX/Austin HS) was the hard-luck loser for the Bucs as he allowed just two unearned runs in eight innings. He gave up just five hits while striking out eight and walking just one. His season record is now 1-5.

Southwestern's overall record falls to 13-20 while the Pirates go to 5-5 in conference. For the Warriors, it was just their second SCAC win as they sport a 2-8 conference record, 13-18-1 overall.

The two teams close out their season series on Saturday (Apr. 7) with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. in Conway.
