Men's Track & Field Wraps Up UT-Tyler Icebreaker Classic

BULLARD, Texas -- The Southwestern University Pirates men's track and field team completed their second meet of the season at the UT-Tyler Icebreaker Classic with over 500 athletes and 960 event entries. 

In the field events, Christopher Ojonta placed in the top five for the men's triple jump, coming in fourth place with a mark of 12.72 meters. Three Pirates were placed in the top 10 for the men's long jump, with Devin Rosas earning a seventh-place finish with 6.38 meters. Ojonta came in eighth place with a mark of 6.29 meters, and Jude Ballew placed 10th with a mark of 6.22 meters.

For long-distance, three Pirates competed in the men's 1500-meter race. Noah Dennis placed 36th with a time of 4:20.37, followed by Nathan Botros, who placed 54th, and Doug Ginsberg, who placed 60th.

In the short sprints, Jarrod Garcia was the only Pirate to compete in the men's 100-meter dash, where he placed 27th with a time of 13.24. In the men's 200-meter dash, Robert Robuck placed 19th out of 44 participants with a time of 23.65. Ballew, Keith Rupe, and Garcia also ran in the 200-meter dash and placed 20th, 41st, and 44th.

Adrian Washington placed 13th in the men's 800-meter dash with a time of 2:00.11. Dennis and Ginsberg also competed in the men's 800-meter dash and placed at 39th and 49th.

Rupe was the only Pirate to compete in the men's 400-meter hurdles, where he placed 12th with a time of 1:08.07.

Up next, the men's track and field team will get ready for a two-day meet in Houston, Texas, at the Victor Lopez Classic on Friday, March 26, and Saturday, March 27.
