Men's Track & Field Wraps Up ACU Invitational

ABILENE, Texas — The Southwestern men's track & field team wrapped up the Abilene Christian University Wes Kittley Invitational, competing against NCAA Division I and II programs. 

Simon Rupe opened with a throw of 34.05m in the javelin, placing 22nd. Giovan Zavala, Yadon Tramel, Andrae Gibson, and Chuks Ikwuemesi followed with a ninth-place finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 43.51. 

The quartet of Jamal Maxey, Gibson, Adrian Washington, and Ethan Marquez competed in the 400m dash. Maxey placed 25th with a time of 51.03, followed by Gibson at 28th (51.30), Washington at 29th (51.67), and Marquez in 41st (53.89). 

Ikwuemesi and Tramel placed 18th and 24th in the 100m dash with times of 10.99 and 11.24. In the 800m run, Brian Armijo placed 36th with a time of 2:06.68, and Vincent Kim ran a 2:13.19 for 49th place. 

The 400 hurdles followed with Marquez placing 21st with a time of 59.54. Next, Ikwuemesi (22.63, 25th; Andrae Gibson (22.82, 29th), Tramel (22.83, 30th), and Keith Rupe (25.70, 45th) competed in the 200 dash. 

The Pirates had three teams competing in the 4x400m relay. Maxey, Parrish, Washington, Gibson clocked in at 3:32.22, finishing 12th. Armijo, Shaulis, Bailey, Hall followed at 3:54.80 for 17th, and Botros, Dennis, Kim, Ginsberg at 3:57.15 for 18th.

Southwestern will return to action on Saturday, March 26, at the DIII Challenge hosted by Texas Lutheran University in Seguin, Texas.
