Final SCAC Road Games Await Pirates in Mississippi and Tennessee

SU's men's and women's basketball teams are on the road again this weekend for a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games against Millsaps College in Jackson, MS on Friday (Feb. 2) then moving on to Rhodes College in Memphis, TN on Saturday (Feb. 3).

Each of the women's games will begin at 6:00 pm as they bring to the table their 10-9 overall and 3-6 conference records. Senior forward Kendal George (Winnie, TX/East Chambers HS) and sophomore forward Natasha Azizi (Katy, TX/Cinco Ranch HS) are the highest scoring Pirates, averaging 18.6 and 11.3 points per game, respectively. The women are coming off a recent 75-65 victory over Sewanee on Sunday (Jan. 28).

Millsaps currently has a 3-15 overall record with a 1-8 mark in conference. The team is led by sophomore forward LaReina Adams who is averaging 13.2 points per game and is the conference leader in rebounds with 11 per game. Her teammate, Crystal Dickerson, leads the team with nearly 3 assists per game. Millsaps' most recent game ended in a 57-88 loss against #10 DePauw University.

Rhodes College goes into Saturday's game holding a 12-7 overall with a 4-5 conference record. The leader in steals and number 2 scorer in the conference, junior guard Ashley Farrell grabs the attention as she is averaging 20 points per game. Last weekend, the Lynx defeated Centre College by a score of 68-57 and face Trinity University the night before playing SU.

The men's games will directly follow the women at 8:00 pm. The Pirates currently own a 9-10 overall and 4-5 conference record. The team is powered by junior forward Matt Caplan (Houston, TX/University of Kansas) who is fourth in conference for his average of 3.21 assists per game. He is joined by junior guard Mike Powell (Houston, TX/Episcopal HS) in leading the Pirates as the two players average a combined 23.1 points per game.

The Millsaps men are 12-7 overall and hold a 7-2 conference record. Their leading scorer, junior forward Edrick Montgomery, averages 18 points per game to lead the conference. The Majors were on a 5 game winning streak until their last game against DePauw University. Millsaps blew a 21 point lead to fall 76-74 in Jackson, MS.

Sophomore guard Cory Smith, the second-leading scorer in the conference, will lead Rhodes with an average of 17.6 points per game along with junior teammate Justin Long who averaging 5.4 rebounds per game. The Lynx' current record is 7-11 with a conference mark of 2-7. The Lynx will be facing Trinity University on Friday (Feb. 2) before hosting the Pirates on Saturday.
