Luechtefeld Scores Twenty-Six in Win Over Austin College

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - The Southwestern men's basketball team had lost the past four games in a row, including two heart-breaking losses in overtime over Schreiner and Colorado College. But the Pirates got back on track on Friday night in the Robertson Center, dominating the Austin College 'Roos from start to finish.

The Pirates were in full control throughout their matchup with the 'Roos. The first half started with the Pirates jumping out to a commanding 25-8 lead as it seemed Austin College had trouble getting anything going offensively. The first half was highlighted by sophomore forward Brock Luechtefeld and senior guard Preston Hannah. Luechtefeld ended his first half with thirteen points, while Hannah had ten of his own. Austin College clawed back from seventeen points down to make it an eleven-point 24-35 Pirate lead going into halftime.

Freshman forward Luke Hatcher had six points in the first half but exploded onto the court in the second half, scoring fifteen points and shooting 5-7 from the field, including going 100 percent from behind the free throw and the three-point line.

It was more of the same from Luechtefeld, who doubled down on his first half with another thirteen points. Between him, Hannah, Hatcher, and a slew of other Pirates, Southwestern scored 52 points in the second half in their second-highest scoring total of the season. The Pirates cruised to an 87-73 win, a much-needed victory for the Southwestern men's basketball team.

The Pirates take on the Dallas Crusaders on Saturday, January 21st at 6:00 PM following the women's basketball matchup.
