Men's Basketball Loses to UMHB on the Road

BELTON, Texas — Southwestern men's basketball dropped its second game to open the season, losing 100-80 to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders. 

The PIrates struggled to take care of the ball, committing 24 turnovers, including 15 of the live variety, leading to 15 fast-break points and a 34-12 Mary Hardin-Baylor advantage in points off turnovers. 

Mary Hardin-Baylor got into the paint regularly, scoring 46 points inside. Josiah Johnson did most of the damage for the Crusaders, scoring 34 points on 11-for-18 shooting, including 5-for-9 from the 3-point line. Ty Prince proved an efficient second option, contributing 23 points on 15 shots with four assists. 

Three Pirates scored in double figures, led by Kyle Poerschke's 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting with eight rebounds. Brock Luechtefeld added 11 points on six shots, and Leo Toussaint came off the bench for 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting. 

Southwestern drops to 0-1 with the loss. The Pirates will hit the road on Friday, Nov. 12, to play McMurry at 7:40 p.m.
