    GEORGETOWN, Texas - Thanks to the generous donations of the members of Southwestern's first booster club, The Pirate Crew, the Athletic Department was able to begin a new tradition of awarding watches to senior athletes whom had completed eligibility while at Southwestern.

    NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Southwestern women's cross country team was named as a top scholar team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Their 3.59 team GPA was the highest of all women's cross country teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and were tied for the 13th highest in the nation at Division III.

    GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern University Head Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track and Field coach Francie Larrieu Smith has been selected as the Team Leader for both the junior and senior women's cross country teams by USA Track & Field. The teams will compete at the NACAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, March 6th at Mt. Irvine Bay Golf Resort in Tobago.

    SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced its Student-Athlete Academic Honor Roll today for the 2009 fall term and 47 Southwestern student-athletes representing all five fall sports were earned recognition. A record 780 student-athletes conference-wide made the list.

    GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Tami Warner (pictured) finished in 25th place out of 189 runners in her final meet for the Pirates. The team came in 21st place overall to wrap-up their 2009 season.

    CONYERS, Ga. – The Southwestern women’s cross country team battled difficult travel and tough course conditions at the SCAC Championships on Saturday at Oglethorpe University. Rain and a dramatic weather change during the race resulted in slower than expected times for the runners but the women still put up a good showing.

    FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Southwestern Pirates amped up the competition and therefore their times as they took on numerous DI schools at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on Saturday morning. Both the men and women posted either personal best or season best times in the uncommon competition distance of 10K for the men and 6K for the women.

    GEORGETOWN, Texas – Due to poor course conditions and the extensive amount of rain the Jackson, Miss. area has received the Mississippi College Cross Country Invitational has been canceled. The Pirates will join Trinity and Hendrix at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in northwest Arkansas.

    LIVE OAK, Texas – The Pirates found themselves face to face with a challenging situation on Saturday at the University of Incarnate Word Cross Country Invitational and had to adjust quickly and still performed well. Muddy and cool conditions led to an unconventional course change, but the women responded well, finishing in 7th place against tough competition.

    SEGUIN, Texas – Despite not running a 6K yet this year, or ever as the case may be for some of Southwestern runners, the Pirates took fourth place at the DIII Texas Championships on Saturday, finishing behind McMurry, UT-Tyler and Trinity.

    Senior Tami Warner led the way for the Pirates at the UT-Tyler Invitational with a second place finish. Southwestern finished fourth out of six teams with 96 points.
