Pirates Finish Fourth at SCAC Championship
IRVING, Texas - The Southwestern University women's cross country team competed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship Saturday morning hosted by the University of Dallas.

Southwestern earned fourth place at the SCAC championship meet with 123 points, Trinity women's team secured its fifth SCAC team title and five runners finished in the top 10. Colorado College came in second, followed by St. Thomas in third place. Texas Lutheran and the University of Dallas placed fifth and sixth.

Head Coach Steven Cary says, "The goal for this championship year was to improve on last year's performance. It's a brand new group from last year and they're super young, so it was all about getting championship experience. The theme for this year is to be good at getting better."

Emma Pertuit finished with the Pirates' fast time, placing 19th overall with a time of 24:18.60, making this her fastest 6K run. Laura Carrasco Torres followed not too far behind, finishing with a time of 24:53.10 and placing 27th.

"Pertuit ran an amazing race. I thought she ran to her potential today, and Laura wasn't far behind. They make a good 1-2 punch for us and I'm excited to see them continue to elevate our team moving forward," says Cary.

Morgan Kos (27:14.80) and Corinne Johnson (27:14.90) were the next Pirates to cross the finish line, placing 37th and 38th overall. Emma McCandless (27:34.90), Lauren Calzado (29:19.40) and Giselle Kennison (31:11.70) placed 40th, 49th and 51st.

As the 2021 season ends, Cary notes that the Southwestern women went into an unknown cross country season and championship meet and ran with everything they had.
