Track & Field Teams Travel To Houston For Indoor Meet

HOUSTON, TEXAS- Both the Mens and Womens Track & Field teams traveled to Houston, Texas for their season opener at the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Challenge on February 11th.

The event took place in the Yeoman Field House located at the University of Houston. It's not too often that the Pirates get to compete on an indoor track, but they took full advantage of the opportunity, breaking 13 school records! "The FasTrack meet represents our lone indoor meet and the start of our season. It was fantastic to see our players in positions to go out and compete. Very proud of how the group attacked the challenges on an indoor meet with little experience," said Head Coach Kenneth Eboh.

Sophomores Michael Parrish, Arden Neff and Freshman Michael Roper all made the finals. Sophomore Michael Parrish ran a 10th of second faster in the 60 Meter Hurdles finals and was able to finish in 3rd overall.

"I just started this week, so for me, I wanted to see how everybody raced and what I could learn about them through those experiences. I saw that this team has been putting in lots of hard work, evidenced by the PRs and school records, and some smart racing, where they paced themselves well and didn't panic when it was time to make a move. I came away with some good ideas about where we can focus our training over the next couple weeks before our first outdoor meet. Overall I am very pleased with how the distance group raced today." – Coach Joe Sponsel
