Men's Track & Field Places Fifth at SCAC Championships

SAN ANTONIO — The Southwestern men's track and field 4x400 relay team highlighted a solid team performance at the SCAC Championships, helping to lead the Pirates to a fifth-place finish. 

The quartet of Andrae Gibson, Kieth Rupe, Nathan Botros, and Brian Armijo crossed the finish line fourth with a time of 3:34.16, placing fourth. Gibson also paced three Southwestern sprinters in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.23 for another fourth-place finish. 

Noah Dennis crossed the finish line at 16:31.38 in the 5,000-meter run, finishing 10th. Xander Bailey followed in 12th (16:39.83), and Doug Ginsberg in 20th (17:46.95). Maxey clocked in at 51.36 for 13th place, and Ethan Marquez at 53.04 for 18th. 

Armijo ran a 4:09.21 in the 1,500-meter run. Botros crossed at 4:36.05 to finish in 18th and Vincent Kim at 4:43.82 for 20th. 

Simon Rupe placed sixth in the javelin throw with a mark of 43.13 meters. Sam Dawson finished 13th (35.80 meters) and Grey Wagner 15th (30.64 meters). Wagner placed 13th in the discus with a throw of 31.25m. 

Keith Rupe finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.29, and Yadon Tramel finished 10th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.16. Christopher Ojonta represented Southwestern in the triple jump, placing fifth with a distance of 13.06 meters. 

The Pirates will compete in the Saints' Last Chance Invitational hosted by Our Lady of the Lake University on May 13-14.
