Men's Track & Field Continues Improvement

SAN ANTONIO — The Southwestern men's track & field team continues to improve each week, setting multiple personal bests this weekend at the University of Incarnate Word Invitational. 

The first day featured multiple field events with Arturo Jimenez and Grey Wagner placing sixth and 10th in the shot put with throws of 12.88 and 10.05 meters. Jamal Maxey finished second in his flight in the long jump and 11th overall with a personal-best jump of 6.62 meters. Maxey also won his flight in the 200-meter dash, finishing 16th overall with a personal-best time of 22.42. Andrae Gibson followed in 25th at 22.88, then Yadon Tramel in 32nd at 23.16.

Simon Rupe led Southwestern in the javelin throw at 41.61 meters to finish 10th, setting a new personal best, followed by Wagner in 12th with a throw of 30.30 meters. 

Ethan Marquez crossed the finish line at 1:00.50 to finish 16th in the 400-meter hurdles. Brian Armijo paced the Pirates in the 1,500-meter run with a personal-best time (36th, 4:11.40), followed by Nathan Botros (56th, 4:31.05), and Vincent Kim (63rd, 4:39.48). 

Noah Dennis (23rd, 16:07.70) edged out teammate Xander Bailey (24th, 16:22.74) in the 5,000-meter run, followed by C.P. Shaulis (27th, 16:27.95), and Doug Ginsberg (37th, 18:05.92). 

On Saturday, Andrae Gibson won his flight in the 400-meter dash, placing fifth overall with a personal-best time of 49.75. Maxey finished in 14th at 51.54, and Jarrod Garcia in 31st at 1:05.02. Kim placed 44th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:09.81. Tramel paced Southwestern in the 100-meter dash (24th, 11.11), followed by Chuks Ikwuemesi (11.33). 

The track & field teams will compete in the Texas State Charles Austin Classic on Friday, April 15, followed by the SCAC Championships from April 23-24.
