Men's Track & Field Sets Program and Season-Best Marks at DIII Challenge

SEGUIN, Texas — The Southwestern men's track & field team continues to set new marks this season, getting another record-setting performance from sophomore Adrian Washington

Washington finished second in the high jump, setting a new school record with a height of 2.01 meters. He previously set the record at 2.00 meters at the Trinity Invitational, breaking B.J. Durham's mark of 1.98 meters set in 1996. 

Keith Rupe set a new season-best time of 16.48 in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing 11th. The senior from Bulverde, Texas, also paced the Pirates in the 400-meter hurdles, placing 10th with a time of 1:01.32. Ethan Marquez clocked in at 1:01.96, finishing 12th. 

Andrae Gibson showcased his speed in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line at 50.37 to finish second. Jamal Maxey followed with a time of 51.36 for a seventh-place finish. In the 200-meter dash, Yadon Tramel finished 15th (22.47), setting the highest Southwestern mark this season. Gibson finished 19th (22.75), and Washington 23rd (22.80). Chuks Ikwuemesi placed 12th in the 100-meter dash (11.05) and Tramel 17th (11.14). 

Nathan Botros recorded a time of 4:37.53 in the 1,500-meter run, placing 14th, and the quartet of Maxey, K. Rupe, Washington, and Gibson placed ninth in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:38.63. 

Southwestern had four athletes competing in the javelin throw, led by Sam Dawson's 17th-place finish with a distance of 35.04 meters. Simon Rupe followed at 20th (31.94 meters), Keith Rupe at 24th (29.39), and Grey Wagner at 29th (22.22 meters). 

In the discus, Grey Wagner placed 19th with a season-best mark of 27.36. Dawson finished 13th in the shot put with a season-best throw of 10.80 meters, followed by Wagner at 17th with a throw of 9.19 meters. 

Maxey and Christopher Ojonta competed in the long jump and triple jump. Maxey finished 15th in the long jump with a mark of 6.37 meters. Ojonta followed with an 18th-place finish at 6.30 meters. Both fared better in the triple jump, with Maxey setting a new season-best at 12.55 meters to place 10th, followed by Ojonta at 12th with a distance of 12.34 meters. 

Southwestern will return to action next weekend at the Angelo State David Noble Relays from April 1-2, followed by a trip to the University of the Incarnate Word Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, from April 8-9.
