Men's Track & Field Shows Potential At Trinity Invitational

SAN ANTONIO — The Southwestern men's track & field team opened its season at the Trinity Invitational, recording seven top-10 finishes, including a pair of second-place finishes and one school record. 

Adrian Washington placed second in the high jump, setting a new school mark at 2.00m, breaking B.J. Durham's record set in 1996. He also competed in the 400 Dash, placing 17th (52.39), and was a part of Southwestern's eighth-place finished in the 4x400 relay, joining Ethan Marquez, Zachary Vilo, and Andrae Gibson to produce a time of 3:29.46. 

Brian Armijo was one of two cross country runners with a top-10 finish, placing second in the 5,000-meter race (15.57.23). His fall teammate, Noah Dennis, was 10th in the 10,000-meter race (34:55.01). 

Ethan Marquez placed 10th in the 400 hurdles (59.99), Jamal Maxey was eighth in the 400 dash (50.10), and also competed in the long jump, placing 15th (6.51m), the 200 dash, and finishing 23rd (22.93).

Giovan Zavala, Yadon Tramel, Zachary Vilo, and Chuks Ikwuemesi finished with a time of 43.83 in the 4x100 relay, placing ninth. 

Southwestern will travel to Abilene, Texas, on Thursday, March 17, to compete in the three-day Abilene Christian University Wes Kittley Invitational.
