Men Place 2nd, Women Take 3rd at SCAC Track & Field Championships

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Southwestern Men's Track & Field team finished 2nd with 141 points, while the Women's team finished 3rd with 82 points in the SCAC Championships this past weekend.

Valerie Logan (1:03.74) placed 5th in the 400 Meter Dash.  Lilly Duarte (2:20.04) took 2nd, Kara Koinis (2:22.93) 3rd, and Meredith Donaldson (2:41.38) 11th in the 800 Meter Run.  Duarte also placed 2nd in the 1500 Meters with a time of 4:50.63.  Emily Ammon finished 3rd in the 100m Hurdles (21.20) and 2nd in the 400m Hurdles (1:16.54).

In the 4x100m Relay, the Southwestern team of Emily Ammon, Valerie Logan, Cara Sheffer, and Busola Okunnu finished 3rd with a time of 55.81.  The 4x400m Relay team of Koinis, Duarte, Logan, and Ammon ran a 4:14.32 which earned them 2nd in the event.

In the field events, Koinis placed 3rd in the Long Jump with a distance of 4.33m. Cara Sheffer finished 2nd in the Javelin with a distance of 26.97m.   Maya Adighibe placed 4th in the Shot Put (8.81m), 5th in the Hammer Throw (23.8m), and 5th in the Javelin (20.69m).  Molly Campbell took 7th in the Shot Put (5.79m), 4th in the Discus (22.58m), 4th in the Hammer Throw (24.10m), and 9th in the Javelin (15.23m).

On the men's side, Zach Anglin (11.68) and Ryan Huiszoon (12.10) finished 6th and 8th respectively in the 100 Meter Dash.  Anglin also took 7th in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 23.74.  In the 800 Meter Run, Paden Williams (1:58.34) collected 2nd place.  Sam Martinez (16:20.42) earned 6th and Philip Davis (18:34.16) 12th in the 5000 Meter Run.

Daniel Tuttle dominated in the Hurdles, placing 1st in both the 110m (14.97) and 400m (56.19) events.  Alex Sheppard (15.86) also placed 3rd in the 110m Hurdles.  In the 3000m Steeplechase, Joe Sponsel finished 2nd with a time of 10:40.65.

Both Men's Relay teams finished 2nd in their respective events.  The 4x100m team of Zach Anglin, Alex Sheppard, Ryan Huiszoon, and Daniel Tuttle posted a time of 43.59 and the 4x400m team of Sheppard, Lando Duarte, Huiszoon, and Tuttle finished in 3:23.87.

The team continued to do well in the field events.  Sheppard (1.88m) and Tuttle (1.73m) placed 2nd and 4th in the High Jump.  Cody Taylor took 1st place in the Pole Vault by clearing 4.45m.  Tuttle took home another 1st place in the Triple Jump with a distance of 13.16m.  Anglin (11.33m) also took 8th in the event. 

In the throwing events, Daniel Poole took 1st in the Javelin with a distance of 47.75m.  Joseph Quintero placed 2nd in the Shot Put (10.93m), 2nd in the Discus (35.88m), 2nd in the Hammer Throw (30.30m), and 4th in the Javelin (37.30m).  Owen Cassidy took 3rd in the Shot Put (9.97m) and 3rd in the Hammer Throw (25.35m).
