Larrieu Smith Named as Assistant Coach for 2011 Pan American Games

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Southwestern University head men's and women's track & field and men's and women's cross country head coach Francie Larrieu Smith has been selected as an assistant coach for the 2011 Pan American Games, October 23-29 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Larrieu Smith will serve as the endurance coach for the athletes with her extensive knowledge and experience in international competitions. A 1998 inductee of the National Track & Field Hall of Fame, Larrieu Smith's running career spanned four decades and included 13 world indoor records and a total of 35 American records in distances ranging from 1,000 meters to two miles. Larrieu-Smith qualified to compete on five Olympic teams.

This is the second time Larrieu Smith will coach on the national level. She was selected to coach six collegiate runners from around the nation at the International Association of Athletics Federations' World Cross Country Championships on March 28, 2009 in Amman, Jordan.
