3 PIRATES EARN ALL-SCAC MEN'S BASKETBALL HONORS

The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced their selections for the 2008-2009 all conference team and Southwestern University landed three Pirates on the report.

Junior guards Travis Barber, Zach Bergstrom and Anthony Cox all earned All-SCAC Honorable Mention for the 2008-2009 season.

Barber played in all 28 contests for the Pirates this season, starting in 27 of the 28 contests. He averaged 10.2 points per game which is second on the team and shot 37.8% (90-238) from the field, 33.7% (35-104) beyond the arc and 74% (33.7%) from the free throw line. Barber was a consistent all-around player, pulling down five rebounds a game and recording 58 assists and 31 steals, all second on the team. He recorded two double-doubles this season, at Hendrix and in Southwestern's first round tournament win against DePauw.

Bergstrom started all 28 games for Southwestern this season. He led the Pirates in scoring (11.5 ppg), field goals made (3.5 pg) and 3-point field goals per game (2). Bergstrom shot 37.9% (99-261) from the field on the season and 34.8% (55-158) from beyond the arc and 63.9% from the free throw line. Bergstrom was also third on the team in steals with 22. He had a season high 24 points at the University of Dallas.

Cox also started in every game for Southwestern this season and led the team in assists with 108. A sharp shooter from the floor, Cox shot 40.2% (78-194) from the field and a remarkable 42.6% (26-61) from three point range. Cox also led in free throw percentage, going 99-116 from the charity stripe for 85.3% this season. He was third on the team in points per game (10) and led the Pirates in steals (32). Cox had a season high 21 points against Sewanee.

All three are scheduled to return to the Pirate basketball team next season as they aim to get back to the SCAC Championship game again.
