Southwestern Host Rival Trinity for SCAC Doubleheader

Southwestern University's men's and women's basketball teams face off against rival Trinity University in Georgetown, TX on Friday (Feb. 9) evening for another round of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games.

The Pirate women sport a conference record of 4-7 and an overall mark of 11-10. Senior forward Kendal George (Winnie, TX/East Chambers HS) ranks fourth in conference scoring with 18.1 points per game and is seventh in rebounds with 6.7 per game. Quarterbacking the offense is senior guard Priyanka Kainthla (College Station, TX/A&M Consolidated HS) who is averaging 3.33 assists per game, good for sixth in the conference.

The Tigers enter Friday's game at 8-3 in conference and 14-6 overall. Trinity is currently riding a five game winning streak as junior forward Megan Scholbe leads the team with an average of 11.4 points per game. Sophomore post Krista Prato Matthews has been very strong on the boards as evidenced by her 8.9 rebounds per game.

The Pirates are aiming to improve their 4-7 conference and 9-12 overall marks. SU ranks second in scoring defense, holding opponents to just 61 points per game. The lone senior on the team, Casey Gorder (San Antonio, TX/Texas Military Institute) is leading the team with an average of 5.3 rebounds per game. Junior Ben Schleif (San Antonio, TX/Reagan HS) has recorded a team-high 27 steals, good for 15th most in the conference.

Trinity is coming off a weekend sweep of Rhodes College and Millsaps College and sports a 6-5 conference record while sitting at 11-10 overall. The Tigers are led by sophomore guard/forward Charles Houston who averages 11 points per game and ranks seventh in conference in rebounds at 6.2 per game. Second for TU in scoring is senior guard Brandon York at 9.9 points per game.

The women's game is set to tip-off at 6:00 p.m. followed by the men at 8:00 p.m.
