Dec. 5, 2008

Box Score

Southwestern University opened conference play at Austin College but dropped the contest 64-60.

Despite shooting nearly 67 percent from the three point line and 40 percent from the field in the first half, the Pirates were never able to take the lead but did manage to go into halftime tied.

The Pirates started out well in the second half by scoring 7 points in the first 2 minutes.  The run forced the Roos into a timeout from which they rebounded and tied the game again just 3 minutes later.  Austin College regained the lead with just under 13 minutes to play and never relinquished it.

Southwestern was led by junior guard Anthony Cox's 13 points.  Junior guard Zach Bergstrom and senior center Andrew McDonald also had strong showings for the Pirates.  Bergstrom had 12 points, 6 rebounds and a team high 4 assists and 2 steals on the night while McDonald recorded 10 points and team highs in rebounds (7) and blocks (2).

The loss moves the Pirates to 4-2 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.  They next look to Colorado College, another conference opponent, on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in Colorado Springs, CO.
