The Southwestern University men's basketball team knows what a team effort is. 14 Pirates scored against the University of Dallas en route to a 68-43 win.

After beginning the game on a 13-0 run, the Pirates continued their suffocating defense and only allowed the Crusaders 11 first half points on 4-27 shooting (14.8 percent).  The second half was much of the same on the defensive end for Southwestern as they forced 13 turnovers for the game and held the University of Dallas to just 26.2 percent from the floor and 15.8 percent from behind the arc.

Southwestern shot nearly 50 percent from the floor and was led by freshman guard Ryan Chavez.  Chavez scored 13 points on 3-5 shooting, going 2-3 from three-point.  Post players junior Ross Hayes and senior Andrew McDonald also had strong nights for the Pirates recording 8 points, 7 rebounds and 8 points, 6 rebounds respectively.

The win moves the Pirates to 4-1 as they open conference play on Friday at Austin College.  The men will play the first game of the double header at 6:00 p.m.
