PIRATES FALL AT MILLSAPS, 83-73

The Southwestern University Pirates lost an important game on the road to Millsaps on Sunday, 83-73. The loss moves Millsaps into fourth place over the Pirates and moves Southwestern back out of post-season play.

Despite leading early in the game, the Pirates couldn't hold off the Majors on their home court as they shot 50% from the field and 41.4% from three point range for the contest. The Pirates out-rebounded Millsaps 33-26, but committed 4 more turnovers.

Southwestern got down by as many as 17 points just four minutes into the second half, but were able to battle their way back into the game and pulled within one point on a pair of free throws by junior forward Ross Hayes with just six minutes remaining in the game. Millsaps responded by going on a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to put the Pirates down 11, 77-66, with only 2:13 left to play.

Southwestern was led by sophomore guard Nick Caputo who scored 13 points on the afternoon. Hayes and junior guard Zach Bergstrom followed with 12 points each. Junior guard Anthony Cox chipped in 10 points in the loss.

Senior forward Andrew McDonald was the leading rebounder for the Pirates, pulling down nine boards.

With the loss, the Pirates fall to 14-9 overall and 5-8 in the SCAC. They are currently in fifth place and just one game out of making the playoffs. They host Austin College on Friday who is currently in third place in the conference with a record of 6-7. Sunday, the Pirates host last place Colorado College who sits at 4-9 in the SCAC.
