Southwestern University lost its match-up with SCAC conference rival Trinity on Saturday night 78-86. The Pirates shot well from the field and line, but were out-rebounded 35-28 and gave the Tigers 28 second chance points which proved to be the difference.

Trinity responded by going on a 15-2 run over the next 5 minutes, putting the score at 65-50 with 11:38 remaining.

Southwestern chipped away at the lead and pulled within two with 3:14 left to play on a layup by junior guard Anthony Cox and again with 1:21 remaining on a jumper by senior forward Andrew McDonald.

Down the stretch, the Pirates would foul in hopes of pulling closer, but Trinity capitalized on the opportunity and made 7 of their 8 free throws to close out the game.
