Box Score

With 28 seconds remaining, Southwestern University found themselves trailing Millsaps 47-48. Millsaps' Blake Martinez missed the front end of a one-and-one and Andrew McDonald secured the rebound for the Pirates. Junior guard Anthony Cox brought the ball down the right side of the court and delivered a perfect bounce pass to junior guard Travis Barber cutting back door. Barber converted the layup and was fouled on the play. Barber knocked down the free throw to put the Pirates up by two with 17 seconds remaining.

After a Millsaps timeout, the Majors' Chad Songy missed a three-pointer at the buzzer and the Pirates emerged victorious, 50-48.

Southwestern was up by 3 at halftime and was kept in the game in the first half by junior guard Zach Bergstrom. He had 15 of the Pirates 23 first half points on 6-12 shooting from the field and 3-7 behind the arc. Bergstrom finished with a season high 23 points to lead all scorers.

Rebounding and defense were they keys to the victory. The Pirates out-rebounded the Majors 42-30 and held Millsaps to just 29.4% from the field and 21.7% from behind the arc for the game. Bergstrom, Barber and Andrew McDonald all had 7 rebounds on the night.

With the win, Southwestern improves to 8-4 on the season an 1-3 in the conference. They look to extend their winning streak to two when conference foe Trinity comes to Georgetown on Friday, January 9th at 6:00 p.m.
