GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern lost the rebounding battle 42-28 and were defeated for the first time this season 94-90 by UT Tyler.
- Benjamin Stiver was electric early, scoring 13 of SU's first 31 points to help the Pirates mount a 13 point lead, 31-18, with 8:10 to play in the first.
- That lead didn't last long, however, as Southwestern went cold offensively just as Tyler heated up. The Patriots closed the half on a 22-12 run but SU held a slight advantage at the break, 43-40.
- Early miscues cost the Pirates and allowed UTT to tie the game for the first time since the opening tip.
- Back-to-back three's by Chris Molina sparked the Pirates to life as they mounted a six point lead 80-74 with just under six to play.
- The Patriots clawed back to take the lead, 81-80, with 3:18 remaining and never relinquished it to hand Southwestern their first loss of the season.
